A transfer! Just in time for Christmas....

Well, we heard from Matt a little late this week, but that was due to him getting transferred!  A surprise indeed, as we all planned to send (and some already sent!) his Christmas gifts directly to his address in Sparks instead of the mission home so he would get them in time...  Now we wonder how the gifts that were already sent will find their way to him.

And I can't believe I missed him by a week!!  Oh man.  How cool it would have been to see him while I was in Vegas just a week earlier!!  Ah well.  I wish him success and happiness (and a clean apartment) in his new area!

Well.  I got transferred.  It was kinda out of the blue.  I am now in North Vegas.  We drove down from Reno on Monday so I wasn't able to email until now.

Last week, it was snowing off and on all week.  Luckily, Mom, I didn't wear dress shoes most of the week (the couple times I did, it was pretty cold.) because we were shoveling snow almost every day of the week for people.  It was fun for a couple people because they didn't know that we were coming and were surprised to come out and find us working in their driveways.  I'm glad Elder Mussetter was willing to do so much service.  At the end of each day, I was super sore but I felt really good.  The snow was pretty dry because it was super cold in Reno (it got down to about 5 degrees).  At the end of the week, it warmed up and the snow that was falling turned wet and it made a slushy mess everywhere.  My tennis shoes are pretty warm... except when they're wet!

We got the call Saturday night at 10.  They almost forgot about us but we both got transferred out down to Vegas.  We've been having problems in that area.  My companion hasn't been motivated at all.  He didn't like it up there at all.  Despite all that, I've grown closer to him than any of my other companions.  My new companion is Elder Redden.  He's a cool guy.

We drove down Monday.  I was in a car with my old companion Elder Meldrum, my old Zone Leader in Carson City Elder Otteson (who is going home), and my District Leader in Sparks Elder Novak.  Elder Meldrum has been companions with all three of us and we all know each other pretty well.  It was the most fun I've ever had in a car ride.  They are all goofs and we laughed the whole way down to Las Vegas.  It was SOOO fun.

When I got to Vegas, it was night and I got picked up by my new companion Elder Redden and his old companion Elder Jolly.  Elder Jolly left on Tuesday for his new area.  The apartment we live in was a pigsty.  It was disgusting.  Missionaries are gross.  It turns out that Elder Redden has kept it at bay for the past 3 transfers but the last couple weeks he just hasn't had the energy to keep it up.  Elder Jolly was a total slob.  So after we dropped Elder Jolly off at transfer meeting on Tuesday, some other missionaries came over and helped us clean the apartment.  I spent 2.5 hours deep cleaning the bathroom.  YUCK!!!  The whole apartment was a 5 hour project between the 4 of us.  Now I can stand to live in there.  *whew*  We had candles burning all day yesterday.  The area that I live in is really rich.  We have a couple investigators and a few less-actives that we are teaching.  They had Elder Redden and Jolly on bike and Jolly is pretty fat and Elder Redden couldn't get him to bike very much added to the fact that Jolly's bike was broken 90% of the time.  I think Elder Redden is excited to work.  I am too.

I read all your emails and I am so grateful that I have such a great family.  Seriously, families like ours are not the norm.  As a missionary, you see everybody from all walks of life.  Most do not have a family as close as ours, in and out of the church.  I was very inspired by Emily.  I have been trying to find a way to give more of myself and to develop my talents more.  Emily has definitely helped me to be motivated to do better.  I love you all.  Thank you for everything and I will talk to you in 9 days!!  Woohoo!!
