Joining the Republic of Molossia

Well, looks like we get to wait another week before I receive the letter and mission pics from Matt -er- Elder Blakemore.  So again I'm adding some random pics of Matt to this post.  :)  Off to the left we have Matt acknowledging the smarts of this guy in front of the National Archives museum in DC who has the following carved below him: ETERNAL VIGILANCE IS THE PRICE OF LIBERTY.

Luckily we got an email from Matt yesterday with his most recent missionary adventures!  I can't believe all the different random people he has run in to.  And I thought DC was full of all the crazies!  ;)

This week from Matt:

Mission life is great!!!  To those that I haven't emailed in awhile, I'm here in Dayton, NV (I can't remember who i told that to, so if you didn't know, now you do)  It's been great, though some of the cooler people that we have been working with haven't been coming to church. :(  We have solid lessons with them and they are going great and then Sunday comes and things all fall apart for some reason!!  GRRR!  Today is P-day so on P-day we get to go do stuff that we normally don't  have time to do... like laundry and emailing and shopping and stuff.  But we also get together with all the missionaries in the area and do fun stuff too!!  Today, there are some members south of Carson City that offered to take us 4-wheeling/rock crawling!!  WOOHOO!!  I'm excited.  It'll be fun.

Oh, so the other day, we were making some visits in the major rural part of our area (called Mark Twain Area... because Sam Clemens lived here for awhile... he was despised in Virginia City).  We have met some really cool people out there... and some loonies.  So the other day we were visiting people and we drove by this house that had a sign out front saying "Republic of Molossia".  We had to stop and investigate, so we did and I have pictures to prove it.  So we thought that we were going to run into one of those loonies that hated the American Government and everything and so he just seceded from the union.  We knocked on the door and one of the first things he said to us is that we were illegal because missionaries were not allowed in Molossia.  (he has a website: http://www.molossia.org/  )
He made an exception for us because we're cool like that (he said it was mainly meant for Jehovah's Witnesses) and he is the dictator and can thus break any rule.  He was actually a normal guy with an abnormal hobby.  He got this idea when he was 14 and just stuck to it.  One of these P-day's, we are invited to take a tour of his 1 1/4 acre country.  He has his own measurement system, stamp system, navy, customs booth, and monetary system (which goes by the cookie dough standard).  He's way cool, if a little eccentric.  He's a normal guy otherwise... he doesn't say crazy stuff or anything like that, he's normal except he has his own country.  Check the website, it's funny.  Only in Dayton, NV will you find these kind of crazy people!!  Haha.  Everybody hides in Dayton.  We found this guy and the next week in the newspaper, he was arrested for killing a 9-year-old girl in some other state!!  I have met more interesting people here in Dayton than I have in my whole life outside the mission!!  Wow.  Darn, I can't upload pictures right now, but I will next time, i promise... or you can check my blog that Emily is keeping up for me:  www.notyouraveragefloormatt.blogspot.com  which will be updated with pictures very soon.  Well, I gotta go. So I will email next week.  Email me back!!!!
