Anyway, here is what he had to say:
Alrighty, it has been pretty hectic up here in Dayton. Last week they changed our P-day to wednesday and because of different circumstances, i wasn't able to write. But here I am now. Dayton is pretty small. it is a little east of Carson City. Carson is small too in my opinion, but... My companion is named Elder Beatty. He is pretty cool. He is only 2 inches taller than me. I am not the shortest Elder in the mission either. there is one that is only 5'1". haha.
Anyway, there are some pretty sweet things up here in Dayton. About 20 minutes away in our area is a place called Virginia City. I don't know many facts about it but it was a huge mining town back in the day and they still mine gold out of those mountains. I'll quote Tami and say, "Look it up!" It is way cool. I'll have to spend one of my P-days there. We have an investigator there that is ready to be baptized. She is awesome.
There is this guy here that is way cool. He has this geothermal project going that is going to end up power Dayton and all of the surrounding area. There is a ton of geothermal activity up here I guess. Besides like 5 Ph.D's, he was once the #1 terrorist in the world back during the Cold War when the Russians hated us. He was also best buds with Osama Bin Laden, when we were allies. He flew Helis and was special forces and, "went and did stuff that never happened." haha. He is a chemical engineer by trade and is the only person that has a legal permit to produce anthrax. He has been on several Mayan/mesoamerican digs in the yucatan and such. He has had like 5 lifetimes pushed into one!! This guy is awesome. You should see his little rec room. He has at least 50 guns and many knives and artifacts from his digs that he has been on. Holy Cow. This guy is way cool. And he is a member of the church!! He doesn't go because of health problems, so we visit him every once in awhile.
Okay, so yesterday we were knocking doors and we came across this lady that showed us into her house. It was kinda spooky in the front room. She said she used to be a member but hasn't come in years. Now she is "Pagan". Well this wasn't weird to us because we are teaching a pagan lady, except this one followed like the egyptian gods or something. That was kinda weird to me because i thought pagans worshiped the Norse gods. oh well. she had some cool papyrus paintings that she probably bought off of amazon or something. So we were talking to her and she mentioned how she was kind of into like herbalism and holistic medicines and stuff so i got curious and asked her a few questions. Well then she said, "well, i don't usually show people this, but..." So we followed her into this back back room (they had built several additions to their house). She opened this door and showed us this shrine that she had made to her gods. there were like egyptian god statues all over the place and there were these daggers and stuff. It was really weird. it had a really weird feeling. she had a couple of bookshelves that had books about like herbs, and healing rocks and witchcraft and dragons.... wait, Witchcraft and Dragons?!?!?! What the heck?!?! so she was searching through her apothecary cupboards and we saw these labels like mandrake and wormwood and stuff... I was thinking, what is this, Harry Potter? I thought that stuff was made up. I was looking around for the alter she was going to sacrifice us on and the stuff she was going to mummify us with. *shiver* weird. We kinda got out of there quick, but yeah. she is still a member and we are going back there because Beatty has a rock collection to show her. we're unsure if we want to go back, but this is the best contact with the church that they have had in like 6 years. The husband is normal though, so thank goodness.
Anyway, I'm behind on the emailing so next week i'll be able to be caught up and write some personal emails. Have fun guys! I know I am, haha. oh my goodness, it is sooo fun.
-Elder Blakemore
I love the lady with the Harry Potter craziness! It makes me laugh. Oh, the whacked-out people that are out there!!
I know that Matt would still love to get letters/packages. Here is the address of the mission home that you can send them to:
Elder Matthew Blakemore
4455 Allen Lane Suite #140
North Las Vegas, NV 89031-2229
(I still have not seen a pic of Matt from his mission, so I'll continue to post some random ones of him. This is from when he visited me in DC last summer -- in front of the National Archives)
